Whippet Cottage
Our newest and most modern cottage’s name was inspired by the history of the Meander Kennel, founded in 1928, by Julia and Judith Shearer, who greatly influenced the creation of the ‘American-style’ Whippet. The Shearer sisters, who were also known for their champion horse breeding, produced more than 150 Whippet litters and more than 50 champions at the Meander and most notably, Ch. Mica of Meander was used as the template for the American Kennel Club Whippet standard when it was revised in 1944.
A renovated kennel-house, this multi-room cottage offers privacy as well as modern day comforts with a smart TV (the only TV installed in any room at Meander), a quaint living room space with a sleeper-sofa couch and a kitchenette and dining area. There is a private bedroom with a king-size bed and a spacious bathroom that can be accessed by the bedroom or the kitchenette. Out the front door is a private deck with a table for outdoor dining and a fire pit to keep you warm during colder weather.
The view of the open pasture creates a serene landscape of the Virginia countryside, all from the comfort of the living room couch. This cottage is pet-friendly and has in-room Wi-Fi access.
